During the summer of 2017, I faced a lot of mental and emotional setbacks from my life that held me back on a lot of things, including music. (This song was originally set to drop that summer. You can hear me say "it's 2017..." in the 2nd verse...) I experience anxiety and depression everyday, but creating art not only lets me to express myself, but it allows me to learn more about mental health myself and gives me the opportunity to educate others.
After a lot of hesitation and contemplation on releasing this song, I decided to finally release it. Fuck it. At this point, I have decided to give absolutely 0 fucks about anybody and anybody's negative opinion about me, my journey, and my passion for creating art. People will either love it or they won't, but I'll be good either way.
The Woods is a metaphor for the hood. Life can be tough in the concrete jungle. From gang violence, shootings, poverty, gentrification, to feeling unsafe among your own people AND the police. Though we face many hardships and struggles, I want to inspire other people out there to keep there head up and continue to hustle. It ain't over yet. I want to influence people to be vulnerable, have these conversations, and express themselves through creativity.
